iPhone as Polaroid
I’ve got a camera in me pocket…
The iPhone is an annoyingly handy little gadget. I find myself using it more than I ever thought I would, mainly for playing chess with friends or checking my news feeds. But it’s also got a 2 megapixel camera on it, and so I’ve been playing with that a bit. The camera has close to zero manual options - which is actually quite refreshing, and inspires the same kind of creative experimentation that a Holga would.
Here are a few shots from the iPhone, processed with the “Instant” setting from the CameraBag app:

You make an interesting point lad - never thought of the camera phone being to a dSLR what a Holga would be to a Hassleblad. I’ve always just kind of written them off as not being worth the effort, and to be honest, I’m probably not going to start using the camera on my phone now anyway. Having said that, I guess there’s a place for it!

There is definitely a place for it. I would never try to use it as a replacement for my “real” cameras, but when I plan for - and even use to advantage - the iPhone’s inherent limitations… then, interesting things can happen.

I use my iPhone camera when I’m conducting recce’s on new shooting locations. If I’m going to do a night shoot in a new location, I nearly always scout it during the day and take some shots from different angles and then review them in iPhoto that night.

That’s a pretty good idea. I came across another good use this past week when I was in NYC - my LX3 battery died, but I remembered I had the iPhone. Turned out to be the better option anyway for sneaking around rooms in the UN building we weren’t technically supposed to be in ;) We managed to walk through the UN General Assembly while it was in progress!
