Hiccups
I'm migrating some of the files on my site to a new location, so please bear with me. The images posted here in the blog will not work for a little while. The rest of the site should work fine now.

New business cards

I'm in the process of revamping the
Photography section to better represent my commercial and editorial work, in addition to the nightscapes. This got me thinking it's about dang time to re-design my business cards.
So I had these made up at
Overnight Prints on a recommendation. I must say, I'm impressed with the quality and turnaround time. My only complaint is that the paper, though nice, is not quite the same on both sides. You can see the two upper middle cards are a bit darker.
The card says "photographer" on one side and "designer" on the other, with corresponding web addresses. The BB logo and tribal pattern are spot-coated (glossy) and printed a slightly lighter value. The tribal pattern is a little bit different on each side.

Tuey

This is Jade's mom, Tuey. Besides being a very warm and funny person, she was also trained by the royal chef in Thailand and makes better food than just about any restaurant I've been to, in OR out of Thailand. When Jeremy and I were in Thailand during our trip around the world, she (and Jade's dad, Dave) showed us around the North, skipping from one great meal to the next and pausing to take in the scenery in between. It was a great trip.
This is among the first images taken with my new Nikkor 85mm f/1.8 portrait lens. I love it!

Doumbek

So, Jade dragged me to a drumming seminar and got me hooked on the Middle Eastern drum called the Doumbek. I immediately went out looking for one, and it so happens there's a great local company here in SB that makes these beautiful handmade ones.
The other side of this drum has an intricate carved pattern, but our skylights kept throwing odd reflections on that side. The glazed portions of the drum are shiny as hell, and it was a real challenge to fend them off at all.
This photo was my first attempt to do a product shot with my new Gadget Infinity V2 radio flash triggers. Thanks to the new wireless setup, I could place a flash directly behind the drum, pointed at the background. I of course owe all my (limited) success at lighting to David over at
Strobist.com for providing such a wonderful resource.
