Kinetic Sculpture

This is a kinetic sculpture at Goleta Beach. The cone shapes catch the wind and rotate on metal "spokes" or "branches" and occasionally emit little clangs, kind of like the sound of a cowbell. There aren't nearly as many cones on the sculpture as it looks like there is here. To make this exposure I set up the camera on a tripod and opened the shutter. Over the course of a few minutes, I popped a speedlight (flash) several times while holding it above my head. Each "pop" froze the sculpture in a certain position, gradually building up the photo you see.

Night Shots with Flash

Went down to Goleta beach tonight and played around with my new Nikon SB-24 speedlight. Now I can finally get proper exposures of trees at night....
