Arlington West, Part II

Arlington West

Every Sunday morning since 2003, a coalition of concerned citizens' organizations (including Veterans for Peace) erect this temporary memorial in downtown Santa Barbara. There is one cross for every soldier killed in the Iraq conflict.

New Camera

So, for the second time in six months, i've spent LARGE amounts of money on a new camera. Did the old one get stolen? Was it not working anymore? No, i just grew out of it, real fast. I had an olympus 8mp c8080, which is a fine camera. (and for sale, if you want it... $400, nearly new). But i just got an unbelievable deal on a digital SLR off craigs list. So now i'm shooting with a Nikon D70. It's so unbelievably wonderful to press the shutter button and have the camera take a picture--instantly. No lag. Beautiful... brings tears to my eyes.

Psychotic succubus she-devil republican soccer mom!

OK, there are some incomprehensibly irritating people in this world. And apparently one lives down the street from me...

I was out shooting pictures of random things (trees, flowers, etc) with my new camera, walking down the street, when this lady pulls up in her SUV tank with the window down. She yells, "excuse me!", so i turn around, and i'm instantly barraged.

"Do you have permission to be taking pictures of that person's yard?"

Umm... no...

"You better stop then and go back where you came from."

Now, as far as i know, taking pictures of a flower while walking down the street breaks no laws. I tell her so, which doesn't seem to register.

"I hope you don't think you're going to be walking up and down this street taking pictures!"

Sorry to burst your bubble, lady... i reiterate my stand on the legality of flower photography.

"Well, then. I'm going to call the cops. You should run back to wherever you live fast."

Ma'am, i live right behind you in that house there. My name is Toby, apartment 2. Now please, just call the cops and get the fuck out of my shot.

Had i been less astounded by the audacity of this woman, i would have raised my camera and snapped off a few frames while she fumed. Would've made a great picture...

More Playground pics

Sunset in the bushes

This picture has not been altered at all. The red is from the sunset shining through the bushes...

Oh, and by the way, one of my pictures is in this month's online Snaps Magazine. CLICK HERE to see. The theme was 'weather', so i put in a pic of my family silhouetted against lake tahoe in the snow. It's about halfway down, so you gotta scroll a bit.

The Playground

The Playground is a huge area filled with boulders and crevasses up in the mountains overlooking Santa Barbara. I went up there yesterday to break in a new pair of climbing shoes.
