Growing up between Santa Barbara, California and Atlanta, Georgia, I spent most of my time drawing comics. I sucked at video games and didn't like team sports, so really it was either art or take up the accordion... I chose the less audibly annoying route. In high school and later for the UCSB student newspaper (The Daily Nexus) I was an illustrator, making editorial cartoons and cocktails in the dank holes that journalists call offices. I spent my free time messing around in Photoshop trying to make crappy photos look good. This was to serve me well later, when I would be using Photoshop to make relatively Ok photos look great!
After sailing through high school and college without really learning anything much, my friend and I took off for a seven month trip around the world. I was in Thailand when the Tsunami hit, but thanks to the Full Moon rave (which was the very same day), I was on the gulf side, which didn't get hit at all. Luck caught up to me four days later when I got drugged and robbed at a bar on New Years.
Despite what you may be thinking, this is all relevant - among the items that were stolen was my crappy point and shoot camera. So for the next six months my sole creative outlet was a leather bound sketchbook (which you can see here). By the time I got home, I was sick of the effort required in actually physically making marks on things, and decided a new SLR was in order. Since then I've been wantonly clicking away and spending roughly all my income on overpriced camera gear.
I spend my days as a web designer for ELC Technologies, building Ruby on Rails apps and bathing in the cool light of dual 24" Mac displays. At night I stumble out of phonebooths in full costume and chase down the full moon, Nikon in one hand and Manfrotto in the other.
On a related note, all my photos are available as prints and for licensing, and I offer on-site photography services in the Santa Barbara area. Gotta feed the monkey, right?
